 Society Expectations & Teacher Professionalism

    In this topic, the presenters highlighted the teacher's autonomy, its importance and the characteristic of teacher's autonomy. Therefore, I wanted to give my point of view regarding this matter. First and foremost, I do agree that teacher's autonomy is a crucial part in every teaching and learning process as same as the learner's autonomy. In this case, the teacher's autonomy that I wanted to highlight is the decision-making. An educators should be responsible for every decision in their class including how to teach the students, what approach should they do and how long it requires to finish certain syllabus. All of these decisions should not be influenced by the authorities like the principal or headmaster of the school. It is because, no one understand their student well except their teacher. In other words, teacher should be given more freedom in decision-making to ensure the best outcomes for students. A principal do not have the rights to schedule in what month should the teacher finish the course syllabus for it will affects the whole process. I do believe if an educators given the 100 percent in decision-making, they will be able to respond to students' needs and it will individualize they approach with different kind of learners. Briefly, a teacher is a leader for his students thus, he must be able to guide his student to achieve success by equipping himself with noble characteristic of a teacher.
